It is obvious that men and women are different in a countless number of ways. One way that may not be as noticeable is the difference between male and female skin. Is there really that much of a difference, and how do these differences affect skin care? Let’s find out.
Thickness
Male skin on average is thicker because it contains more collagen, which causes a tighter, firmer overall appearance. An area that is significantly thicker for men, is the forehead. The collagen density in men reduces at a constant rate over time but reduces dramatically in women later in life (Firooz et al., 2018)
Oiliness
Men have higher sebum levels and have more pores, than women, except for the forehead where women actually have higher sebum levels. Men are also reported to have overall larger sebaceous glands and pores. This means that male skin is typically oilier on the face and neckline than women. Men are less likely to have issues with dry skin than women (Firooz et al., 2018). Due to the facts above, it is important for a man to find products that are light in texture and less heavy, and greasy. Men’s Youth Shops Day Crème is light in texture and is made specifically with male skin in mind.
Shaving
Women have facial hair to some degree, but typically this hair isn’t as coarse as that of men, so frequent shaving is a common habit for most men. Shaving removes the first layer of skin cells, making the skin sensitive. Removing this layer exposes immature skin that can react to external influences (Firooz et al., 2018). Shaving improperly or using a blunt razor can cause nicks, and razor bumps that negatively affect the skin. Be cautious and take your time when shaving in order to reduce cuts and nicks. Change out your razor frequently, having a fresh, sharp razor can help avoid these shaving mishaps. Having skincare products that have ingredients to sooth sensitive skin is important to look for. Our products are made with aloe vera which is gentle, soothes the skin and accelerates wound healing.
Since men and women’s skin is different in many ways it is important to go with skincare products that are specifically tailored for male skin. Here at Men’s Youth Shop our products are specifically created with men in mind. Shop our Products.
